Submissions
An-Najm Publishers only accepts fiction manuscripts aimed at young Muslims (aged 12-24), and does not publish poetry or non-fiction at this time.
An-Najm Publishers does not reproduce previously published or self-published works, nor do we do not currently pay our authors royalty, although this will implemented for books published in late 2008.
General Guidelines:
- We do not accept submissions that contain erotica, pornography, or any other content that goes against the teachings of Islam, with the exception that it is made known that the action is not advocated.
- We aim to publish works of fiction aimed at young Muslims aged 12-24, and will not consider illustrated stories for children, or books intended for an adult audience (aged 24+).
Book Proposal Guidelines
Your proposal must include the following:
- Cover letter containing a brief description of the book/ project.
- An outline and/or annotated table of contents.
- A description of the intended audience in light of the subject matter including an explanation of why someone would want to buy the book - i.e. your book's unique proposition. Include a list of known competing titles, if applicable, and how yours differs from the competition.
- Three sample chapters.
Full Manuscript Guidelines
-
Include a cover letter containing a brief description of the book, the intended audience, and a brief marketing plan which illustrates how the book will be marketed by the author (read more about marketing plan requirements below).
- Include the author's name and contact
information (address, phone number(s), and email address) and word count on the cover page. Number pages and include the title and author's name on each page.
- Submissions must be in English, double-spaced with 1-inch margins in
12-point type .DOC or .RFT document attached to your email. Please number the pages and include the total word count for the proposed manuscript. Please avoid unique fonts, complex formatting, and fancy symbols for scene breaks.
- Pieces will not be accepted simply on the basis
that they have a Muslim author. Submissions must have at least one Muslim character and should expound upon Islamic beliefs, principles or ideals. They may involve a direct exploration of an issue of importance to Muslims, or an indirect one, but should not be preachy.
- While An-Najm Publishers will edit the work, submissions should be carefully checked for grammar and spelling errors and for typos. Pieces which require heavy editing may be rejected despite their otherwise worthy nature - please only submit your best work.
Marketing Plan
A marketing plan should consist of your analysis of your book's strengths and weaknesses, the mediums you will utilise to market your book (i.e. newspapers, radio, television, internet) and the methods in which you will approach these mediums to get notice of your book.
Please send submissions and query letters to info@an-najmpublishers.co.uk.
